Comic Con 08!!!!! Any Takers?

Hey all, I am not sure if it is called Comic or Wonder Con. What I do know is that it is a gathering of the best of whats around for everything in art, publishing and entertainment. I have set a goal of making it to San Diego for the next Convention this coming summer 2008. If anything just to see what is out there and maybe break down some doors to leave a business card or two before getting hauled away in handcuffs.
Is it too late to get tickets and reservations for the Convention? Anyway I have been talking to some buddies in Texas who might be interested in going. If any Ringling alumni would like to meet up or join me let me know and I will definitely look out for you even though I have heard this thing is massive.

MIST is so Cazy!!! SEE IT!!!!!

Man, I just got back from seeing the movie the "Mist" and it is INSANE!! An edge of your seat plot that is intellectual, terrific, and sadistically horrifying at the same time. The antagonist was played so diabolically well I cheered when they blew her character away. I am not much of a horror fan but if you are see this movie!!!!!! It was phenomenal and I don't think I will ever sleep again!! Just at least until I balance the spectrum out by seeing Enchanted.

One childhood dream accomplished!

The haunted house was a big success despite the fact that it was not a big night for trick or treating. Hands down it was so much fun to create something like this from a meager childhood dream and a napkin drawing. It was awesome to build and to scare kids in. My buddy and "co haunted house builder" Stuart Dunsmore also was able to bring his projector so we got to make an outdoor movie theater and watch movies on the garage door. We played Ghost Busters and Nightmare Before Christmas. The weather was great fore just chilling outside. I decided to be Shaggy for this Halloween. It's a shame this all has to come down but it sure psyches me up for next Halloween!

Haunted House Mwa Ha Ha Ha Ha " its a movie"

Blast from the past

A little photo of good ole times with the pooch. This was back when my brother Tommy and me "the stud in the Gecko threads" were shorter than my sister Kate who is now almost a little person at 5 ft something or other.

Tribute to the Best Dog on Earth!!

Some unfortunate news. My family and I had to put our dog Vanilla to sleep today. We have had her for 15 long years and she has been half way around the world with us when we moved to Japan and Thailand and back to Texas for my Dad's job. She truly was the best companion to us all as well as an important member of the family. We all love her and will miss her a lot. Sorry for the ridiculous post but she really meant a lot to my family and me.

Thanks

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies,

Here is to you Albert the number one fan of the living dead and re killing the living dead. I have had this sketch in the old book for a while . What better time to post it! Frankly I find it hard to be scared of walking corpse that I can run circles around and out wit no problem. That's just me, I am a Were Wolf fan.

Halloween doodles

Hopefully "many more" to come. Time is sure flying by.

another sketch

I have been looking at some J W Waterhouse for guidance on drawing a decent woman. I love the way he paints his subjects very subtle but substantial enough to address features highlights, shadows and anatomy. All in all a great artist to study from.

3:10 to Yuma

I saw the movie and was inspired to do some doodling. The funny thing was that one of the biggest cold blooded killers in the movie was an actor I remember from an old show called Flash Forward on the Disney Channel.

New Book review

I decided to get the art behind Ratatouille book. It was a good buy all around and the digital background paintings are beautiful but I pretty much got the book solely on the amazing and very stylized character designs of the phenomenally talented Carter Goodrich. They are terrific!

This is the last one I promise

Since he was a Monkey grinder I felt he needed a monkey of course. The monkey's face is a little funny and the tail might be off a tad.

Some belated photos from the Jersey Shore

Here are some pictures from Long Beach Island where I vacationed part of the summer. It was a good care free time and the weather was great for the most part. I even got to see about 10 Bottle Nosed Dolphins on a fishing trip, which was more than awesome. There was even a shark sighting at the beach on my last day there, they claimed it was a 5 foot brown shark chasing a small ray or something. I promise this will be my last post for the weekend for I need to get some freaking work done.

Many Thanks

Thanks for the comments guys, it is a good shot of confidence as always. Yes Steve I have always been majorly inspired by those portraits in the Haunted Mansion "my favorite attraction at Disney". One of these day I would love to learn how to make those paintings where the eyes follow you around the room.

Inspired by some very cool studios

I was browsing around some other blogs featuring the coolest tours of their studios so I wanted to join the band wagon. I love artists because we all love to collect tons and tons of crap. The only problem is functioning in that mess of stuff. For now my studio is also my room.

Top Secret Stuff

I did this little maquette to help me out on a children's book I am doing for a commission. It turned out nice but I am not really liking the colors right now. If anyone out there in cyberland knows a lot about painting maquettes I would be more than grateful for some pointers. Thanks

Big Ole Bill is 24

Hey everybody, it was my birthday this past week so I got my self some new books with my money from working part time at Kinko's. I got The art of Surfs up which is fantastic even though the movie does not look so hot. I also got the Art of Pirates of the Caribbean, very very good too. However the best present came from my sister who is teaching English in Japan. She gave me the "Art of Totoro", which is pure gold from cover to cover, I strongly recommend getting it on Amazon if you can.
